One of America's earliest plantiations, Middleton Place Plantation is a National Historic Landmark.   Middleton Place is popular for it's magnificent Formal Gardens (the oldest in the country) laid out by the original owner, Henry Middleton in 1741.  Also on site are stable yards, a living outdoor museum where the behind-the-scenes story of life on an 18th century plantation is told with animals, artifacts, and craft exhibits.    Middleton has been one of the venues for the annual Spoleto Festival.

  • We visited last September and this plantation was probably the most magnificent that we visited. Beautiful home and gardens.
